VI. Cock-a-Doodle.

Reading edition

Haantje, III, blz. 133.

Cock-a-doodle, doodle loo, What a handy, Little dandy, Strutting round with such ado! Why d’ye make such dreadful splutter, For some grains of paltry stuff; Rather with them to the gutter, Than such fuss to get enough.

—Foolish boy, with stupid mind, All your chatter Is mere clatter; Now, you’ve parents, over-kind. Perhaps, one day, I may be able, To your house a turn to take, Unprovided see your table, What a figure you’ll then make!

Soon your parents you may lose; Will you heedful, Then the needful, With wise care, judicious, choose? No, poor boy, with awkward faces, Should you, thankless, still remain, You will make but wry grimaces, And feel hunger’s gnawing pain!—

Explore with AITake your curiosity a little further.
