Footnotes were lettered ‘a’ to ‘z’, repeating the pattern. They have been resequenced numerically to ensure uniqueness across the text. On occasion, when a note is referred to in another note by its superscripted letter, the new number is substituted.

All footnotes have been moved to the end of the text and linked for ease of reference.

Minor errors, attributable to the printer, have been corrected. Please see the transcriber’s note at the end of this text for details regarding the handling of any textual issues encountered during its preparation.
