GRAY EYES

Reading edition

I do not care for eyes of blue, Though warm they are, and pure, and true; Nor eyes of brown, so soft and deep, Where tender dreams and fancies sleep. I care not for black eyes that flash, And all one’s dear hopes rudely dash; That laugh and dance and mock and tease, Invoking mischief as they please. But, oh, I yearn for eyes of gray! So calm and sweet and softly gay, Such dear gray eyes as, long ago, For me made heaven here below.
