THE FLOWER AND THE SEA-SHELL

Reading edition

In a dream I found a flower Growing in a woodland bower; In the dream I plucked the flower From the fading, darksome bower. Then I, dreaming, from the woodland Journeyed stilly to the sealand, And upon a girted headland Found a sea-shell in the dreamland. Sweet, the flower was thy breath, And the sea-shell was thy voice.
