SHE SLEEPS UPON THE SEA
Reading edition
In climbing shadows of the sea, To-night, sweetheart, shall be thy bed, And through the green, dark waters led Shall glide sea-children then to thee. The cheek of roaring wind and sea Shall be thy pillow, and the waves, With voices gleaned from surging caves Through lips of foam shall sing to thee. The stars of night shall serve thee for thy candle’s spark, And, sweet, the hull of night shall be thy cradle dark.
