Note 607 — THE PREFACE (continued 2)
Reading edition
George Fenton of Fenton was probably succeeded by "John Fenton of that Ilk," to whom the three daughters of Patrick Quhitlaw of Quhitlaw were served heirs-portioners of their grand-uncle (abavus), 30th March 1586. (Retours, Haddington, Nos. 399, 400, 401.)—In MS. 1566, the name is made "George Seton." As Lord Seaton was the head of the family, there could be no Seaton of that Ilk; and George fifth Lord Seaton never joined the Reformers.
