Gadariya;1 Garariya; Gaderiya; Ganreriya—(Hindi gâdar, “a sheep:” Sanskrit gandhâra, so called because originally brought from the country of Gandhâra or Kandahar).—The caste of shepherds, goat-herds, and blanket-weavers found all over the Province. In many parts they are known as Guâl Gadariya, and there seems strong reason to believe that they are in some way connected with the Ahîr or Guâla race, though their personal appearance indicates a much larger admixture of non-Aryan blood. This is strengthened by the fact noted by Mr. Risley2 that in Bihâr they will take both kachchi and pakki food from Guâlas.
