Dietrich expressly states that Christ spoke to the Holy Women in the very act of being relieved of His Cross by Simon of Cyrene. Aranda suggests the same. Others, e.g., Brasca, remark that He spoke to them as soon as the taking of the cross by Simon enabled Him for the first time to turn His head.
