Note 159.1 — THE PASTON LETTERS Edward IV (continued 4)

Reading edition

[From Paston MSS., B.M.] This letter is not addressed on the back, nor is the handwriting that of Margaret Paston, but from the subscription it would appear to have been written by her to one of her sons; and as John Paston the younger is mentioned in the body of the letter, the person addressed was evidently his elder brother. The letter seems to have been written shortly before the Duke of Suffolk’s attempt on Hellesden mentioned in the next No., probably on the Saturday preceding it.
