Reading edition

Guiraud, La Main-d’Œuvre dans l’Ancienne Grèce, pp. 30, 31; cp. von Fritze, Zeits. f. Num. XX. (1897), p. 154, who notes that Maronea, the name of the place in the Laurium district mined in the time of Peisistratus, is also the name of a town in Thrace opposite Thasos (said by Philochorus, F.H.G., I. p. 404, to have been alluded to by Archilochus; cp. Hom. Od. IX. 197). E. Curtius (quoted ibid.) regards the Attic Maronea as having been named after the Thracian.
