Note 32 — THE TECHNICAL CULTURE OF THE ANDAMAN ISLANDERS (continued 2)

Reading edition

The third kind of canoe mentioned above is a recent innovation. The natives themselves say that such canoes have only been made in recent times, since they have been able to obtain a plentiful supply of iron tools, and so have been able to cut down and hollow out large trunks32. They seem to have been invented by the natives of the South Andaman, and copied by those of the Middle and North Andaman.
