Note 1029 — Chapter VII · (continued 2)
Reading edition
Parkman, i. 282-3. There are various papers of uncertain value in the Parkman MSS. in the Mass. Hist. Society, New France, vol. i., respecting the fate and numbers of the exiles. One paper dated at London in 1763 says there were 866 in England, 2,000 in France, and 10,000 in the English colonies. Another French document of the same year places the number in France at from three thousand to thirty-five hundred. There are among these papers plans for establishing some at Guiana, with letters from others at Miquelon and at Cherbourg.
