Note 150 — Chapter I · (continued 3)

Reading edition

Referring to the maps (1756), Smith, the New York historian (Hist. N. York, Albany, 1814, p. 218), says: “Dr. Mitchell’s is the only authentic one extant. None of the rest concerning America have passed under the examination or received the sanction of any public board, and they generally copy the French.” Cf. C. C. Baldwin’s Early Maps of Ohio, p. 15.
