MOTION OF WISH
Reading edition
THROUGH evolutions of the seed To startled postures of the dead, The motion of important wish Is simpler than the motion of a fish In water, or a bird in air. Sprung from the brain, it will return there. Possessed by objects, wish may find Mastery only in the mind. So when the sighing of the shoal, The tropic birds, the monotonous roll Of seasons over the island soul, Confuse hope’s mirror, mariners eat One lotus-moment to forget All other moments, and their eyes Fasten on impossible surprise. A man may journey to the sun, But his one true love and companion Sleeps curled in his thoughtful womb. Here will the lone life-traveler come To find himself infallibly home.
