D’après Ibn-Batouta, Soundiata aurait été instruit dans la religion musulmane par le grand-père d’un jurisconsulte nommé Modrik-ben-Faris, lequel Modrik fut contemporain de Kankan-Moussa, petit-neveu de Soundiata.
