Some minor punctuation errors and typos have been corrected silently.
This work has appeared substantially differently in other editions. We show the text and spelling found in one version, which may not be standard.
Changed "fantaisiehoed" to "fantasiehoed" in zijn hoofd onder den fantaisiehoed.
Changed the accent grave on the last 'o' in 't hoofd óp, licht; schouders òp, to an accent acute.
Nested quotes were changed to the form "... '...' ...", with single quotes as the inner quotes.
Changed "Silvory" to "Sivory" in midden in de steeg Silvory's kroeg uitwalmde.
Changed "moeilijk" to "moeielijk" in moeielijk-geweten leven daarginds.
