In one edition we read poniéndose una mano, etc. But this is a manifest error, since despite the frequency of the phrase ponerse la mano sobre el corazón, as a phrase of cogitation or of asseveration, those passages lack the essential element of this passage, which is the showing of appreciation and gratitude by a gentle caress: placing her hand on his heart.
