Esta antigua costumbre de las mugeres árabes se observó ya por Tertuliano (lib. de Velandis virginibus, cap. 17): judicabunt vos Arabiæ feminæ Ethnicæ, quæ non caput tantùm, sed faciem totam tegunt, ut, uno oculo librato, contentæ sunt dimidiâ frui luce, quam totam faciem prostituere.
