Note 47 — GIORGIONE

Morelli adds the following note: “Weder die Herren Crowe und Cavalcaselli, noch Herr Director W. Bode lassen diese zwei Bildchen alz Werke des Giorgione gelten, sondern sehen dieselben als Schülerarbeiten an.” So far as Crowe and Cavalcaselle are concerned, this statement is an error, as one can easily see by reading what they say on pp. 128–9 of the second volume of their History of Painting in North Italy.
