Note 1376 — Chapter XII

Reading edition

Mr. J. Birmingham, in the Introduction to his Catalogue of Red Stars, adduced sundry instances of colour-change in a direction the opposite to that assumed by Zöllner to be the inevitable result of time. Trans. R. Irish Acad., vol. xxvi., p. 251. A learned discussion by Dr. T. J. J. See, moreover, enforces the belief that Sirius was absolutely red eighteen hundred years ago. Astr. and Astroph., vol. xi., p. 269.
