Colchis was called Aia simply, and by way of eminence: and, probably, Egypt had the same name; for the Colchians were from Egypt. Strabo mentions Ιασονος πλουν τον εις Αιαν. l. 1. p. 38. And Apollonius styles the country of Colchis Aia.
