Note 439 — Chapter IV · THE INDUSTRIAL ARTS.

Walter Armstrong translation

Nos. 385–391 in De Longpérier’s catalogue. These objects came from the collection of Clot-Bey, which was formed in Egypt but contained many things of Syrian origin. De Longpérier did not hesitate, on the evidence of their style, to class these objects as Assyrian, and any one who examines the motives of their decoration will be of his opinion. See his Œuvres, vol. i. p. 166.
