A history of art in Chaldæa & Assyria, Vol. 2 (of 2)

Note 4 — Chapter I · CIVIL AND MILITARY ARCHITECTURE.

Walter Armstrong translation

Traces of the excitement caused by these discoveries may be found in an article written by M. de Longperier in 1845, in which, before having seen the monuments, he points out the interest and importance of the discoveries with rare sagacity. The paper in question is entitled Ninive et Khorsabad. It has lately been reprinted in the first volume (page 34) of his collected works (A. de Longperier, Œuvres, 5 vols. 8vo. Leroux). This first volume bears for sub-title: Archéologie orientale: Monuments arabes.
