Note 128 — Chapter XX
Reading edition
Tolstoy’s doctrine of Non-Resistance to “him that is evil” by any use of physical force has caused much perplexity and is accepted in its completeness by but few people in the Western world. In this passage however he states it in a form to which it would be hard to raise any objection. Never before had the doctrine of Non-Resistance been put so briefly, persuasively, and attractively.—A. M.
