Best known by his Latin name Major. He was a native of Haddington, and spent many years on the Continent, where he acquired great reputation by his numerous works, and became a Doctor of the Sorbonne. He was at this time Vicar of Dunlop; and Treasurer of the Chapel Royal at Stirling.
