Note 8 — REGIMENTAL LISTS.

Reading edition

Quitted the service in 1823. It appears from Plantagenet Harrison’s History of Yorkshire, that the family of “Sowerby” dates back to the reign of Henry I., when one “Sueni” was “Lord of Sowerby” in Cumberland. Some interesting particulars regarding the Sowerby family are to be found in Mr. Harrison’s book, but unfortunately they are particulars of the far-away Norman times.
