The family of French claims to be one of the 14 ancient “tribes” of Galway. Certain it is that it is a very ancient one, and has left many branches in the sister kingdom. There seem to have been several bearing the Christian name of “Martin,” including an “Hon. Martin Ffrench” (son of 2nd Baron Ffrench). Bn. 1790, and d. 1871.
