2nd son of Maj. W. Cairnes, of 39th Foot, who served all through the defence of Gibraltar, and d. in India. On the female side he was of the elder branch of the same family to whom a baronetcy was granted by Queen Anne (extinct). Killed by a cannon ball. Had seen much service in the Pa. M.I. in Canterbury Cathedral.
