Note 7 — XXII VERA CRUZ February–March, 1847

Reading edition

It was not easy to believe that the factions at Mexico would not agree to turn their arms against the Americans on learning they had landed. The American blockade had greatly impaired the resources of the state and city. A forced loan was imposed by the former, but no large receipts could be expected.
