They were perfectly true. There is a letter from Blasco Nuñez to the Emperor Charles V, dated at Panama on February 15th, 1544 (Muñoz Coll., t. 83, f. 246) in which he brings all sorts of accusations against Vaca de Castro before he could possibly have verified any of them, and which he had received from followers of Almagro at Panama.
