The Voiage and Travayle of Sir John Maundeville Knight

Note 5 — CAP: I.

Reading edition

: Pynson says Nyflond, and in some MSS. it is written indifferently Nyfland, Nyflond, Nislan, and Neflond; but I have no doubt but that by it is meant Livonia, as is explained Apian's Cosmographie: "qui est la derniere Province d'Alemaigne, et de la Chrestiété, vulgairement appelee Liefland;" and this is the more likely as Siprus is spelt in Pynson and other editions Pruysse, i.e., Prussia.
