The word Vindhya is probably derived from the root bind or bid, “to divide.” The name, as is suggested by the legend of Agastya Muni, seems to refer to the range as the main barrier against the Brâhmanical exploitation of Central and Southern India: see Professor Wilson, Works, III, 332. ↑
