The Satires of Juvenal, Persius, Sulpicia, and Lucilius

Note 1195 — PERSIUS.

Lewis Evans translation

Togâ. The indignation of Persius is excited by the declaimer assuming all the paraphernalia and ornament of the day kept most sacred by the Romans, viz., their birthday (cf. ad Juv., Sat. xii., 1), simply for the purpose of reciting his own verses. For this custom of reciting, cf. ad Juv., vii., 38.
