The Satires of Juvenal, Persius, Sulpicia, and Lucilius

Note 1964 — BOOK XXX.

Lewis Evans translation

These are the demands of an imperious, perhaps a dowered wife. The speech of Megadorus in the Aulularia of Plautus (iii., Sc. v.), admirably illustrates this Fragment. In the list of slaves which the "dotata" expects, we find the Aurifex, Lanarius, Sarcinatores, strophiarii, semizonarii, textores. The Gerdius is probably the same as the Lenarius: as it is explained in the Glos. γέρδιος, ὑφαντής. Zonarius. Cf. Cic. p. Flac, vii., 17.
