In its report of these events, the Journal de Genève remarked: “As the following day was Sunday, Mdlle. Charlesworth in true English fashion believed and said that she could not go to the Police Court. The police, proud of the success of its little stratagem, at once seized upon this ground in order to expel her from the Canton at six hours’ notice.”
