Note 9 — Chapter IX · THEY MEET AGAIN (1858–1860)
Reading edition
At this point Lady Burton’s autobiography ends—cut short by her death. Henceforward, when she speaks in the first person, it will be from her papers and letters, of which she left a great number. She was sorting them when she died. But I have felt justified in repeating the story of her marriage in her own words, as no other pen could do justice to it.
