His Majesty had so great a distaste to the use of the weed, that he wrote a treatise against it, intituled, ‘A Counterblast to Tobacco.’ It was re-published in 4to. in 1672, with ‘a learned discourse by Dr. Everard Maynwaring, proving that tobacco is a procuring cause of the scurvy.’ This royal pedantic treatise is thought to be a considerable ‘counterblast’ to His Majesty’s fame as an author.—Ed.
