Note 128 — FOREWORD (continued 8)

Reading edition

The E. L. Patch Company declares that “no hexamethylenamine has ever been used in the manufacture of Formitol tablets,” and that ammonium chloride and paraformaldehyde are among the ingredients used in the manufacture of these tablets. The hexamethylenamine present in the tablets, therefore, must have been produced by interaction of the paraformaldehyde and ammonium chloride. This does not alter the laboratory findings regarding the composition of the tablets, namely, that they “contain formaldehyde (or paraformaldehyde), an ammonium compound and some hexamethylenamine.”
