The Poetical Works of William Wordsworth — Volume 8 (of 8)

Note 325 — 1846

Reading edition

The editions of 1807 and 1815 have, after “put by”:

To whom the grave Is but a lowly bed without the sense or sight Of day or the warm light, A place of thought where we in waiting lie; MS.

The subsequent omission of these lines was due to Coleridge’s disapproval of them, expressed in Biographia Literaria.—Ed.
