The Comanche leader Mumsika still preserves a famous peyote button formerly belonging to Kutubi which performed prophecies on an historical war party into Texas (Hoebel, Comanche Field Notes). The anxiety of Clyde Koko (Kiowa) when he thought he had lost his “father peyotes” after changing his mind about sending them back to their original country, well demonstrates the psychological reality of these fetishisms.
