The party battles of the Jackson period

Note 366 — Chapter VI · KITCHEN CABINET PORTRAITS

Reading edition

This is Kendall’s story in his Autobiography. He gives no hint that Jackson contributed a penny. George Henry Payne, in his History of Journalism in the United States, says that the establishment of the Globe cost Jackson $50,000 a year, but as this version is Green’s, it is not at all convincing or probable.
