Pre-revolutionary Russia is admirably sketched in Maurice Baring’s Mainsprings of Russia, The Russian People, and A Year in Russia. A small, very illuminating book on the Russian revolution is M. H. Barber’s A British Nurse in Bolshevik Russia.
