The Origin of Tyranny

Note 1399 — Chapter IX · Sicyon, Megara, Miletus, Ephesus, Leontini, Agrigentum, Cumae

Reading edition

Euseb. Ol. 52. 3–56. 3; Suid. s.v.; cp. Schol. Pind. Ol. III. 68 (38). For an earlier date see Euseb. Ol. 32. 3–39. 2 and Pliny, N.H. VII. 57 (tyrannus primus fuit Phalaris Agrigenti), but these two passages make the tyrant flourish before the foundation of the city that he ruled.
