Except at Sicyon it seldom lasted more than two generations; cp. Hdt. V. 92, where the oracle prophesies that Cypselus and his sons shall be kings of famed Corinth, but not his sons’ sons, αὐτὸς καὶ παῖδες, παῖδων γε μὲν οὐκέτι παῖδες.
