Note 123 — Chapter IV · MARTINEZ’S OPERATIONS AT NOOTKA BEFORE COLNETT’S ARRIVAL.
Reading edition
The Spanish flag had been changed by a royal decree of May 28, 1785. The purpose was to remove the confusion due to the similarity between it and those of the other Bourbon dynasties—France, Naples, Tuscany, and Parma. Red and yellow were the colors adopted.
