The Negroland of the Arabs examined and explained

Note 168 — TEKRÚR.

Reading edition

See ante, Note 73. Mollien (Voyage dans l’Intérieur de l’Afrique, I. p. 176) says, that in the Fellátah language, the word Toucolor signifies a Mohammedan priest. But he elsewhere (pp. 207, 215) seems to use that name as the designation not of a class but of a community. Toucolor, whence the Tucorones of De Barros, is an obvious corruption of Tokrúr.
