Note 545 — Chapter III · THE LEGATION OF PANDULF 1219–1221
Reading edition
Professor Powicke, p. 228, says positively that this was so, citing as his authority “Rot. Claus. passim.” So far as I can see, however, these Rolls contain no actual proof that the “R. camerarius” who figures in them together with the treasurer and another chamberlain whose initial is “F.” is Ralf de Neville. The identification seems to be an inference from Pandulf’s injunctions about “paying nothing out.”
