The proclamation of 16 May 1559 is printed in Hazlitt, E. D. S. 19; Collier, i. 166; N. S. S. Trans. 1880-5, 17†. I do not think the proclamation loosely referred to by Holinshed (1587), iii. 1184, as at ‘the same time’ as another proclamation of 7 April is distinct from this. By 1 Eliz. c. 2 (the Act of Uniformity) the provision of 2, 3 Edw. VI, c. 1, against ‘derogation, depraving or despising’ the Book of Common Prayer in interludes was re-enacted with a penalty of 100 marks.
