Note 192 — Chapter XIX · LITURGICAL PLAYS (continued)

Reading edition

I follow the epoch-making étude of M. Sepet, Les Prophètes du Christ, in Bibl. de l’École des Chartes, xxviii. (1867), 1, 210, xxix. (1868), 205, 261, xxxviii. (1877), 397 (I am sorry not to be able to cite the separate edition printed at Paris, 1878); cf. also Creizenach, i. 67; Julleville, Myst. i. 35; and, especially, Weber, 41. But none of these writers could make use of the Laon version discovered by M. Chevalier. Meyer, 53, suggests that Sepet has exaggerated the importance of the Prophetae in the development of the O. T. dramatic cycle.
