Note 71 — Chapter XVIII · LITURGICAL PLAYS

Reading edition

Feasey, 131. In versions of the Quem quaeritis given by Lange, 24, 25, 26, the action is at the altar. A Senlis Breviary (fourteenth century) has ‘elevantes palium altaris’ (Lange, 27), and a Sens thirteenth-century MS. ‘Sublevans tapetum altaris, tamquam respiciens in sepulchrum’ (Lange, 64). But I am not sure that there was a genuine sepulchre in all these cases: cf. p. 26.
